NX 4 introduced optimal image compression and caching with the latest video-encoding techniques. NX utilizes uses a combination of video and image encoding based on standard codecs and a number of techniques developed by NoMachine as well as VirtualGL to access high-end OpenGL-based X applications and 3-D CAD programs. Images rendered on the server are compressed and encoded and then sent to the client for decryption and decompression. NoMachine Linux products also offer the ability to run multiple virtual Linux desktops on a Linux server (Linux Terminal Server) which are remotely accessed over a network connection. Higher-end products include multi compute-node clustering and fail-over capabilities. Other features include USB redirection, session recording, file transfer, multimedia capability and browser-based access.

The last update to this open-source version was released in 2012. The core compression technology was released under the GNU GPL2 license (NX 1) for Linux servers, whilst other components such as the NX Server and NX Client programs remained proprietary, on February 14, 2003. It wrapped remote connections in SSH sessions for encryption. In 2003, the compression and transport protocol NX was created to improve the performance of the native X display protocol so it could be used over slow connections such as dial-up modems. NX's design was derived from the Differential X Protocol Compressor project (DXPC). It is developed by the Luxembourg-based company NoMachine. I just make a tunnel and connect to whatever SPICE port (eg 5903).NX technology, commonly known as NX or NoMachine, is a proprietary cross-platform software application for remote access, desktop sharing, virtual desktop (on Linux only) and file transfer between computers. If it's a VM running on either KVM or Xen, I normally use SPICE through either Remmina or the normal remote desktop application. Teamviewer works flawlessly, but I am looking for something that isn't $849 for one license if possible. I am not against paying for a reliable remote desktop solution. What type of performance are you guys getting from nomachine or other remote desktop viewing applications using zero tier?

Much slower and less resolution than a normal vnc session. Long story, short I found nomachine and set it up. XRDP does not work, tightvnc does not work, and x11vnc is very unreliable and the service dies after some time. I have zerotier setup and configured to connect on startup, but finding a remote solution has been a challenge to say the least. I am looking at a reliable remote solution for Kali (Debian) Gnome 3 using zero tier.
